B.C. Turkey Farmers Support Local Groups Through The Wishbone Project

30k Donation Aims to Tackle Food Insecurity

VANCOUVER, May 26, 2020 – At this vital time, the British Columbia (B.C.) Turkey Farmers are stepping up and responding to the needs of its community with a series of donations to local organizations fighting hunger during the COVID-19 pandemic.
B.C. Turkey Farmers has identified three community partners that serve important roles in the province and will be providing the following support:

Union Gospel Mission – $10,000 monetary donation to support the Mission’s food service, which provides meals for over 1,000 British Columbians in need daily
Potluck Catering – $10,000 monetary donation to support the organization’s food program, which is creating 1,500 meals per day for Downtown Eastside residents
Breakfast Club of Canada – $10,000 monetary donation to the Club’s emergency fund, contributing to feed over 33,000 children across British Columbia and 500,000 kids in Canada

“We are proud to support these organizations because they are fulfilling a critical role in helping those in need get through these incredibly challenging times,” said Michel Benoit, General Manager, B.C. Turkey Marketing Board. “We hope that our donations can make a difference and we encourage other groups to help out however they can.”

These three donations follow the recent unveiling of the “The Wishbone Project,” the national umbrella for giving for the Turkey Farmers of Canada (which includes B.C. Turkey Farmers) and the Turkey Primary Processors Sector of the Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council (CPEPC). The Wishbone Project recently donated $50,000 to Kids Help Phone and announced that an additional $25,000 would be allocated to support local community heroes addressing food insecurity.
