Wednesday, March 4th – RICHMOND, BC: The Taiwan External Trade Development Council and the Taiwan Trade Center in Vancouver held a press conference and seminar covering Food Taipei 2020 and Kaohsiung Food Show 2020.

Hosted by Director Frank Chen and Director General Andy Chen of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver, the presser attracted 60 industry representatives. The presser featured a presentation by Project Manager Kevin Ang, who outlined bilateral trade between the Taiwanese and Canadian food industries. Over the course of 2019, Taiwanese food exports to Canada gained momentum, rising by 14.5 percent to 110 million U.S. dollars. Mirroring national trends, Taiwan’s food exports to British Columbia rose by 12.9 percent. Taiwan’s top five exports to Canada are 1) fish, crustaceans and molluscs, 2) cereals 3) fruits 4) preparations of vegetables and 5) coffee and tea. Along with Ang’s presentation, representatives from T&T Supermarket and Thai United Food Trading – Neil Xu and Bobby Keomany – gave firsthand testimonies on the effectiveness of Food Taipei as a platform for food procurement and business opportunities for Canadian food producers, processors, and manufacturers. Following these speakers, attendees had an opportunity to take a look at quality Taiwanese food items, including pineapple cakes, biscuits, guavas, dragon-fruit, and puffs.
