Discovery Organics was the winner of two awards at the Fairtrade Canada awards held in Halifax, Nova Scotia in February 2017. The company won 2016 Trader of the Year, and Randy Hooper, Managing Director, won the 2016 All Star award, for several years of commitment in helping small producer groups become Fair Trade certified and proving a market for their products. Discovery Organics has year round supply of fairtrade certified banana, avocado and grapefruit, and typically has more than 20 sku’s of organic fair trade certified produce from the Global South. Growers and co-operatives that work with Discovery have shared in over $750,000 in fairtrade premiums during the past several years and communities have benefited from health, education and infrastructure improvements from the premiums.
