Toronto, ON — CIGBA/DCI is proud to announce the recipients of the 2026 CIGBA/DCI Star Awards, recognizing outstanding individuals and companies that have demonstrated exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to Canada’s independent grocery industry.
This year’s Star Award recipients include:
• Retailer of the Year: Pino’s Get Fresh
• Partner of the Year: Maple Leaf Foods
• Leader of the Year: Stephen Carroll, Maple Leaf Foods
• Lifetime Achievement Award: Joe Greco, Greco’s Fresh Markets
• Innovation Award: Denninger’s
• Social Responsibility Award: Powell’s Supermarkets
These awards were presented on June 2, 2026, during the annual CIGBA/DCI Business Summit, which brought together independent retailers, suppliers, and industry partners from across Canada for a day of networking, education, and celebration of industry excellence.
Continuing its commitment to supporting communities across the country, CIGBA/DCI, in partnership with the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers, proudly donated $15,000 to Food Banks Canada during the annual CIGBA/CFIG Charity Golf Classic held on June 3, 2026. The event united members and partners in support of food security initiatives nationwide.
Adding to the spirit of generosity, the winner of the Golf Classic’s 50/50 draw donated $1,000 of their $2,400 winnings back to Food Banks Canada, further contributing to the fundraising efforts and demonstrating the giving nature of the independent grocery community.
“The Business Summit and Charity Golf Classic continue to showcase the strength, collaboration, and generosity of our industry,” said Barry Lanteigne, Director of Operations and President of CIGBA/DCI. “We are proud to recognize this year’s award recipients and grateful for the ongoing support of our members and partners in helping make a positive impact both within our industry and in communities across Canada.”
