Calgary Co-op Expands Health Offerings with Acquisition of Two Beacon Pharmacies

March 9, 2022 – CALGARY – Calgary Co-operative Association Limited (Calgary Co-op) has acquired two Beacon Pharmacies, an acquisition that reflects Calgary Co-op’s commitment to the community and growth in the areas of health and wellness.

The pharmacies, located at the Sheldon Chumir Centre on 4th street SW and the Mustard Seed Wellness Centre on Centre Street South, will operate as wholly owned subsidiaries. They will remain branded as Beacon Pharmacies and all current services will remain intact. The acquisition of these two pharmacies expands Calgary Co-op’s commitment to serving the community and growth of their overall whole health strategy. Both pharmacies provide services to a geographic area that Calgary Co-op has not been able to reach before.

“We feel our values of service, caring and excellence are strongly aligned with the culture of the Beacon Pharmacies,” says Ken Keelor, CEO Calgary Co-op. “Through our Calgary Co-op Community Foundation, we have a strong relationship with the Mustard Seed, and we believe this acquisition will only strengthen those ties and our commitment to serving our community.”

The Beacon Pharmacies support a unique demographic that include many of our city’s vulnerable populations and provide specialized services specific to their clientele’s needs. Along with this recent acquisition Calgary Co-op also owns and operates 24 pharmacies within their Food Centres offering a variety of services including virtual consultations, onsite vaccinations and injections and travel health clinics.

Says Keelor, “We look forward to meeting the needs of the Beacon Pharmacy team, and their clientele, by providing Calgary Co-op’s high standards of excellence and service.”
