A Bee-Friendly and Cost-Effective Honey Alternative

Be Sweet’s Honey Spread and Vegan Honey Substitute are a new and unique honey alternatives

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Be Sweet Honey Spread and Vegan Honey Substitute are new and unique alternatives to honey that are friendly to bee populations.

Bees are in danger and approximately 70 per cent of the planet’s food crops rely on these pollinating insects. But between climate change, habitat destruction and pesticides, bees are dying at an alarming rate.

“Beekeepers are expected to be protectors of the species, but truly protecting bee species means the end of harvesting honey — and the world’s supply of honey would be depleted,” says Mario Fleury, President of Be Sweet. “Be Sweet products taste and behave just like honey, but they aren’t honey so they keep bees safe from sometimes less than ideal honey industry practices.”

Be Sweet makes two honey alternatives that look, taste and behave just like honey, but are friendly to bees, and as an added bonus they will never crystalize:

  • Be Sweet Honey Spread has the same consistency, sweetness and flavour as honey, but at a significantly reduced cost. It contains a modest amount of honey (about 10 per cent, sourced entirely from Canada), making it 90 per cent bee friendly.
  • Be Sweet Vegan Organic Honey Substitute is an all-natural, organic, non-GMO and gluten-free honey alternative. Formulated using a specific blend of organic cane sugar, organic rice syrup and organic molasses to give it the same sweetness, flavour, viscosity and true golden colour as honey. But because it doesn’t contain any honey, it is 100 per cent bee friendly.

“Very few people in a blind tasting could distinguish the difference between Be Sweet products and honey,” says Mario. “The Spread is also a more affordable option for struggling families. So Be Sweet tastes the same, won’t crystallize, costs less and is bee friendly — that is a good list of advantages.”

You don’t have to be a vegan to think bees shouldn’t be treated cruelly – especially when replacing honey is easy. While there are many responsible bee keepers maintaining apiaries, the fact remains that in the end the honey — a key food source — is often still taken from the bees.

“Bees are simply not able to produce all the honey humans wish to consume, and Be Sweet is the only viable alternative on the market that can help with this,” says Mario.

About Be Sweet:

Be Sweet is a Canadian company that produces an affordable honey spread and a vegan honey that actually tastes like honey. Be Sweet Honey Spread is liquid honey product that looks, tastes, behaves, cooks and bakes like honey, but is much more affordable. It is made with real Canadian honey blended with sweeteners made from corn, giving it the same sugar composition as honey right out of the hive. But unlike honey, Be Sweet Honey Spread won’t crystallize in the bottle. Be Sweet Vegan Honey Substitute is an organic, gluten- and GMO-free, 100 per cent bee-friendly alternative that looks and tastes just like honey.
