More Love, Less Waste: TerraCycle Helps Americans Have a Sustainable Valentine’s Day

TORONTO, ON (February 6, 2025) –– With Valentine’s Day around the corner, Canadians consume three times more candy each February, creating a surge of extra plastic packaging—from heart-shaped chocolate boxes to candy wrappers—that can’t be recycled through curbside programs. International recycling leader TerraCycle is showing Canadians there’s a better way to keep the love (and candy wrappers) alive by recycling this hard-to-recycle waste with Zero Waste BoxTM.

Most candy wrappers are hard to recycle because they are made from a mix of materials, including polypropylene, aluminum foil, and paper. This year, consumers can show the planet some love by utilizing TerraCycle’s Zero Waste Box as a convenient recycling solution for all brands of flexible candy wrappers and packaging.

“Landfills and incinerators are no longer the only option for hard-to-recycle candy wrappers,” said Tom Szaky, Founder and CEO of TerraCycle. “We’ve recycled more than 20 million candy wrappers and want even more Americans to fall in love with Zero Waste Boxes this Valentine’s Day.”

It’s simple to use TerraCycle’s Zero Waste Boxes:

·        When placed in public spaces like schools, community centers and local businesses, the Candy and Snack Wrappers Zero Waste Box encourages people to recycle their wrappers instead of tossing them in the trash.

·        TerraCycle also provides sustainable solutions to other Valentine’s Day related waste, like the Beauty Products and Packaging Zero Waste Box to recycle empty beauty products used to prepare for a night out, the Plastic Packaging Zero Waste Box to recycle the flexible plastic film used to wrap bouquets or the All-In-One Zero Waste Box to recycle almost everything else, all in one single box.

When full, the boxes can be returned to TerraCycle for processing. The collected waste will be recycled into pellets that can be used to make new products, like plastic storage bins and more.

TerraCycle, the leader in recycling complex waste streams, created Zero Waste Boxes to provide solutions for hard-to-recycle waste that isn’t typically recycled through local recycling services. To learn more about TerraCycle and its innovative recycling solutions, visit www.terracycle.ca.
