H.Y. Louie Co. Limited rebrands, introduces new company name: Georgia Main Food Group

Gary Sorensen named President and COO

January 23, 2018, Burnaby, B.C. – On January 22, 2018, Brandt C. Louie announced to H.Y. Louie Co. Limited (HYL) staff that change is coming to the 115-year-old British Columbia-based family business. HYL will be moving to parent company status with the fourth generation of the Louie family – Gregory Louie and Stuart Louie – newly appointed as Co-Presidents with Brandt C. Louie remaining as Chairman and CEO. With HYL moving to parent company status, HYL as it is known today, is taking on a new name and a new vision. Effective March 25, 2018, Georgia Main Food Group (GMFG) will assume all day to day business and grocery operations of H.Y. Louie Co. Limited.

Georgia Main Food Group’s executive committee and staff will continue managing operations at their IGA stores and Fresh St. Market locations in British Columbia. There is an additional appointment with the new company name and structure, Gary Sorenson has been named President and COO, Georgia Main Food Group. Brandt C. Louie remains Chairman and CEO.

As for how Georgia Main Food Group got its name, it is a nod to the company’s origins and where the Louie family businesses began – in 1903, at 255 East Georgia Street in Vancouver.

Sorensen adds, “It is thanks to our heritage, our long-term business partners, our loyal customers and hard-working staff for our 115-year-old company to have the ability to keep innovating and competitive in today’s grocery industry. Georgia Main Food Group is committed to continue to offer new retail grocery experiences and the freshest foods in our IGA and Fresh St. Market stores in British Columbia. Be sure to watch for exciting offerings to come from both these brands in the next couple of years.”
